From January 2017 until the January of 2020 I have worked in Platinum Invest as a fund manager. The experience was interesting. As you can see from the returns, they do not match my success as I have had in my personal account. One of the main differences between managing personal account and fund is the amount of constraints. Fund needs to have high liquidity, minimum 70% has to be invested in stocks, investing in bonds, commodities is limited, and the costs are around 3,5%. It took me over year and a half to change the prospectus of my funds in order to be able to invest in commodities. Example: if the fund is invested 90% in stocks and the index goes up 10% the stocks in the fund must move up 15% (90%*15%-3,5% for costs) just to match the returns of the index. The stock picking has to be 50% better than the index. This is hard. However I am happy, given restrictions, with the overall returns.
